ABSTRACT

This presentation will build on the concepts in Mr. Kee’s 2021 book (Market Failure: How Electricity Markets are Killing Nuclear Power). The presentation will explain that despite nuclear power’s key role in stopping climate change, nuclear power capacity is declining in many countries, including the U.S. To explain this decline in nuclear power (and the failure to embark on a major nuclear build program), Mr. Kee will provide a high-level discussion of the electricity industry and the various approaches to managing that industry to explain some reasons why nuclear power is not thriving. Finally, he will discuss the role of government in nuclear power, as seen in many countries outside the US, and how this role of government might be increased in the U.S.
