Ben Harrison wins ACS Fellowship

Ben HarrisonSpring, 2004

Dr. Benjamin Harrison is the latest recipient of a two-year ACS Petroleum Research Fund Alternative Energy Postdoctoral Fellowship with an annual value of $50,000 for a total award of $100,000. The goal of this program is to stimulate young scientists to direct their careers toward fundamental studies in alternatives energy sources to conventional fossil fuel/hydrocarbon combustion.

Dr. Harrison was awarded the fellowship for his proposed research on "Photovoltaic Devices Based on Water Soluble Conjugated Macrocyclics and Carbon Nanotubes" He will research the use of porphyrins and carbon nanotubes in self-assembled structures to increase the efficiency of organic photovoltaics. His work incorporates the principles of green engineering which is the design, commercialization, and use of processes and products, that are feasible and economical while minimizing generation of pollution at the source and risk to human health and the environment.  He will conduct his research at the Center for Nanotechnology.
