Graduate Student Yuan Li Wins Award

Chinese Ambassador Zhang Yesui (right) presents the Outstanding Overseas Chinese Student Award to Yuan Li

Physics graduate student, Yuan Li, has been awarded the "Chinese Government Award for Outstanding Self-financed Chinese Students Study Abroad". This award was founded by Chinese government in 2003 with the purpose of rewarding the academic excellence of self-financed Chinese students studying overseas. Only those with outstanding performance in Ph.D studies are considered by the award selection panel.

This award is granted across all fields of study in the world and was presented to 146 Chinese students in the United States this year. Ambassador Yesui Zhang presented this award to Yuan Li in the Chinese Embassy last week. Yuan Li works in Professor David Carroll's group at the Center for Nanotechnology and Molecular Materials. His research focuses on fiber solar cell; a new type of 3D photovoltaics for which Wake Forest University has received a patent this past year.
