Cho Research Group Highlighted in the Media

The research of Prof. Sam Cho and his students was recently profiled in a number of international and local news media outlets. Prof. Cho and his team tackle biomolecular molecular dynamics simulations by implementing their algorithms on a video gaming technology called graphics processing units (GPUs). These GPUs were originally designed for rendering images on a computer screen, but they hijacked this technology for high performance computing with impressive results.

Cho explains: "While some problems are extraordinarily easy to implement on GPUs, others are not so straightforward. This is why a strong background in computer science, as well as biophysics, is necessary to solve these problems well. That is why I am fortunate to have such talented physics and computer science graduate and undergraduate students work together to solve these problems with me."
