Prof. Cho Organizes the Wake@Hanes Computational Thinking Workshop for
Middle School Teachers

Profs. Cho (Department of Physics) and Pauca (Department of Computer Science) organized a computational thinking workshop for teachers at Hanes Magnet School. The workshop was generously supported by Google, Wake Forest University Depts. of Physics and Computer Science, The Center of Excellence for Research, Teaching, and Learning at Wake Forest School of Medicine, and Cengage Learning.

Their focus was to incorporate computational thinking problem solving skills into the teachers' existing curriculum. Represented were Engineering, English/Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies teachers who decided to spend their summer learning to about how computational thinking can help their students. They are an inspiration.

One of the keys to the success of the workshop was the student volunteers who developed lesson plans, presented lectures, and helped the teachers learn to program. From the post-workshop survey: "I was very impressed by the well-spoken students who showed great knowledge, poise, and class. They are the hope for the future."

Among the student volunteers was Heming Ge, an undergraduate summer student from Cornell University who also performed computational biophysics research with Prof. Cho over the summer here in the Physics Department.
