On October 23, 2014, the Department of Physics hosted a viewing of a partial solar eclipse. The top image shows the moon partially covering the sun as seen low on the horizon from the roof of Olin Physical Laboratory. Both images highlight a number of sunspots including AR 12192, the largest sunspot seen in 24 years.

The department would like to thank graduate student, Ritchie Dudley, and Professor Paul Anderson for telescope operation and Karen Logan for providing refreshments. The photographs were taken by Ritchie Dudley.
