Graduate Student Lauren Nelson
Selected for NIH Predoctoral Fellowship

As part of a training grant from the National Institutes of Health for the Structural and Computational Biophysics Program that is led by Biochemistry professors Leslie Poole and Douglas Lyles, two students are designated for National Research Service Awards. Second year graduate physics student Lauren Nelson was chosen as one of the recipients of these awards and will be a NRSA predoctoral fellow for the 2015-2016 academic year. The goal of the program is to broaden the education of students in the biological or physical sciences. Lauren will be using computational and experimental methods to explore how mutant forms of the protein neuroglobin can be used as an antitode for CO poisoning and how they can be used to increase nitric oxide bioavailability from nitrite. She works with Drs. Cho and Kim-Shapiro.
